February 2011

Here are some notes and information about upcoming meetings, dues and program.

The January meeting was canceled due to snow. The February meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Feb. 8. Remember to join us for a casual dinner before the meeting at Holiday Ham in Germantown at 5:30 p.m. We will collect local dues of $15 at the meeting. Please remember to pay the National dues of $35 online at www.smocking.org.

Program
Kittie will be teaching a small floral embroidery design with various stitches.
Please bring the following supplies:

  • 3-4" hoop
  • #2 pencil
  • small embroidery scissors
  • extra light and magnification, if needed

Workshop Information

Registration for workshop is now open. All fees will be due at the time of registration.

We will be hosting a workshop with Cindy Foose on March 31, April 1 and April 2 at Germantown United Methodist Church. Please see specific details below.

Thursday, March 31, 6-9 p.m.
Decorative Edges, one Artisan point, 3-hour class
  • $35 members, $40 non-members, kit cost $18
  • Supplies: This is a notebook class of lecture/demo. No machines will be needed.
  • Embroidery scissors
  • pen/pencil
  • ruler - at least 12"
  • straight pins
  • extra light, if needed

Friday, April 1, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Details Count, two Artisan points, 6-hour class
  • $65 members, $70 non-members, kit cost $30
  • This is a notebook class. Supplies include the following.
  • ZIG-Zag sewing machine in good working order.
  • Basic sewing supplies: Fabric cutting scissors, paper cutting scissors, sharp pointed embroidery scissors, straight pins, washable marker, tape measure, pen/pencil, seam ripper, etc.
  • Ruler - at least 18" long
  • Presser feet: General purpose foot, zipper foot, buttonhole foot.
  • Optional presser feet: Straight stitch foot, open toe embroidery foot. Do not purchase these optional feet just for this class, but bring them if you already have them. If it is not too much trouble, bring all of your presser feet, as some machines have feet that work unexpectedly well for a given technique.
  • A spool of all purpose white machine thread - Dual Duty will be fine.
  • Additional lighting and extension cord , if needed.
  • Sewing machine manual
  • 1/2" wide transparent tape
  • We will use Schmetz needles in class (included in your kit). If your machine will not accept this brand of needle please tell us ahead of time.

Saturday, April 2 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
(This is Cindy's most popular, requested class!)
Construction and Finishing Techniques, two Artisan points, 6-hour class
  • $65.00 members, $70 non-members, kit cost $24
  • This is a lecture/demo notebook class that includes a 30-page notebook. No machine is required.
  • Supplies include the following.
  • pen/pencil
  • Ruler - at least 12" long
  • transparent tape
  • favorite yoke dress pattern - optional
