Thoughts from Phyllis

Wow!  July already?  It certainly feels like it outside!   I hope everyone has a Happy and safe 4th of July!
This holiday always reminds me of homemade ice cream.  My mother used to make it every 4th.  Of course she would make the kind that has to be cooked first and then put into the ice cream maker.  We would all take turns cranking the machine. (Funny how we thought that was fun!)  We would make peach ice cream with fresh peaches and then we would make Orange Crush ice cream for the all the kids.  Delicious!  I do not even own a machine now – but I think I will get one for the 4th of July dinner at my house!  I do not think I will make the kind that you cook but any recipes are welcome.

Remember to bring your food items on Tuesday!

See you then!

Thoughts from Phyllis

Almost summer!

Now that we are finally here – I think “where has the year gone already?!”  It’s already time for cookouts, vacations, pool days and just slowing down a bit.  I am busy making summer shorts and bubbles for the boys this summer.  I love seersucker!

Kids Sewing Camp started this week at Lace Cottage.  There are several camps running all month.  I hope the girls begin a great journey for the love of sewing!  Any other ideas for camps are always welcome.

I am headed to the beach with girlfriends from grade school and high school – just a quick trip but I will not be at the meeting Tuesday.  I am still working on the pillowcase – and always taking a few Wee Care gowns with me.

Have a good week!

Thoughts from Phyllis
Happy May everyone!  I know they say April showers bring May flowers, but this rain has been ridiculous! We are going to have some beautiful flowers coming soon hopefully.
With school winding down this month, there will be graduations and then summer fun clothes to sew!  We are having our Kids’ Camp at Lace Cottage again this year – so if anyone has grandchildren who might want to sew – this is a fun camp!  We are making pajama bottoms, pillowcases and an outfit for a doll.

Don’t forget to bring your pillowcases this month. We will continue working on them.
Also – please bring any Wee Care gowns you have finished.

We are also having our booth again this year at the Germantown Library.  Be thinking of items you would like displayed.  I think Susan has been working on getting us a good table for our display.   (Thanks Susan!)
See you Tuesday.

The community will be invited to the library to rotate between tables and decide what they would like to learn. To enhance the learner's experience, we are encouraged to make our presentation as hands-on as possible.
We need MASG teams from 12:30 – 2:30 (includes setup) and 2:30 – 4:30 (includes takedown)
Please sign up for a time at our May meetings.  We can be as creative as we want to be.  The more pleaters and more projects the better! Also any smo9cking books or magazines will create interest!

Came up with a couple of wee care gown designs this month that I like. I am finding that smocking my top row as a wave stitch makes it easy to attach the neckband smoothly.

Brar!!  I am ready for spring weather!  We need some warm, dry weather!  I everyone had a great Easter and you were able to enjoy the day! We went to my sister’s house and had an egg hunt and brunch.  We had dinner at my house with of course, another egg hunt!  Fun day- but I was tired afterwards.

I hope everyone is ready for our “pillowcase project”.  I have been wanting this finished project for the last couple of years - I am ready!  Make sure you have your finished edges done for Tuesday night’s meeting.  We will pleat the strips for smocking at the meeting – so if we could have a couple of pleaters at the meeting that would make the work go much quicker.  Vivian will also have the pearl cotton thread for the smocking at the meeting.

I hope everyone will be able to make it to the meeting Tuesday.

Thoughts from Phyllis

Our Smocking Guild gathering was a success! Thanks to everyone who came out and for those of you who brought items for display and the delicious food and drinks!  Virginia, thank you for everything- it was delicious.  One guest came by just to see what plate was used for the dress in the invitation.  We hope we will have some new ladies come to our meeting this month.

I know we have a few ladies looking into bringing in a teacher for a class, which would be great!  If you have any ideas please bring them to the meeting.  We could also take a “field trip” to a class if you know of any not too far away.

I am so looking forward to spring this year!  It has been unusually gloomy and wet lately – but the few beautiful days we have had were so uplifting.  On a good note though, I have gotten to work more on some sewing projects since I can’t work outside.

See you Tuesday!
