Dear Friends,

Well here we are at the end of our year! So hard to believe! I know how busy it has been for me and I'm sure it has been for you as well! I managed to survive a wedding, the re-opening of Lace Cottage, and the most emotional trip of my sweet niece Elizabeth that many of you traveled right along with me. I am glad to report that as of today, her important numbers are going up!!! First great news we've had in a long and arduous journey. She is still suffering significant side effects from the radiation, but so encouraged from the Bone marrow transplant numbers thus far, that I think she will withstand anything at this point. It never ceases to amaze me how she still never complains about her situation, but only strives to get better to be with her baby. He is doing amazing and now weighs in at a whopping 10 lbs. at 3 mos. Your thoughts and prayers were deeply appreciated by me and my family and every single one of them were passed on by me. Looking back at all she has been through, which has been so much with shock to despair to maybe hope again, sort of puts things in perspective for our own lives.

It does tend to make me want to slow down some and enjoy my friends like you and all that you bring into my life as sewing and just good friends!!! The sewing information we glean from each other is invaluable and the camaraderie is even more precious! That special connection should never be lost no matter how busy we get, as we never know when we might really need to count on each other. I am wishing you all PEACE and JOY throughout this holiday season and into 2016.

Your Friend Always,
Kittie

Hello Ladies,

Well Halloween is behind us but at my house, not so much the candy!! Is it so wrong to have a Butterfinger or two for breakfast?? I bet I'm not the only one!! Come on, you know who you are 😊

Hard to believe Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away, and then OMG! Christmas!!! So some of us start getting the house organized for the holidays with sewing projects, cleaning up etc. This is a really good time to mark your calendars to attend our guild meeting on November 10th as we have Jennifer Gammill visiting us to help us get our sewing rooms organized. Something I can sure use help with. I would love to have a large crowd to show her our support!

Also, Lace Cottage will be having a Christmas open house on Saturday, November 14th, to show off all our adorable Christmas outfit samples we have put together for you. Let's all show our support for our small businesses that support us!

See you all at our next meeting!
Thanks, Kit

Hello ladies!
Well I'm glad to say that our wedding was a complete success and is finally over! I'm slowly decompressing from all the details that stay in your head for what seems like months!!  Now time for a little rest and relaxation in Florida with my sister next week. Just when we might get fall weather here, I go south?? Oh well, quality time together!!

On a sad note, I wanted to share with our sewing family that our own Rose Smit underwent a long and arduous 10 hour heart surgery Monday week ago. There was extensive damage and many repairs were necessary. She will be unable to continue to work at Lace Cottage for the remainder of the year, so we will need to double up on our schedules. She is still in the hospital now, but hopefully will be home soon. Her family is close around her and we need to keep them and her in our prayers.
The Lace Cottage family asks for your patience as we figure out our schedules on classes Rose was teaching. Thank you in advance!

See you in November and don't forget our guest speaker Jennifer Gammil is coming!!

News from our Librarian, Glynda Whitlow

Over the years MASG has invested in quality French handsewing and smocking books for member's use. They are now treasures, so many are out of print. This is a valuable resource for Guild members.

Kitty taught the "honeycomb" stitch at our September meeting. It is an advanced stitch. Did you struggle getting it just prefect? A-Z of Smocking has step by step picture directions. Did you know there are 2 honeycomb smocking stitches? Check this book out to help you with your pleating and smocking techniques.

Coming Soon---the new Creative Stitching Magazine!! Hope to have it by Dec. 8. Someone may take it home and enjoy it over the holidays.

(Please talk with Glynda about deposit for book/magazine loans.)

Dearest Ladies, Because of your concern for my niece and her baby, I wanted to share the latest update with you. Please know that your prayers and thoughts mean so much to me and my family. Since this posted, Libby has moved back to oncology to start yet again chemo treatment. Tough, as this is in another building from NICU.

Hudson McGee Lightfoot was born 8/24/2015 at 9:49am! He was 4 lbs and 17 inches long and came into the world screaming. He was taken immediately to NICU level B because he was successfully breathing on his own. Being only two weeks off chemo and having to go through a surgery under complete sedation, my body took a while to be strong enough to meet my baby boy, which was very hard emotionally. Luckily for our little angel it was love at first sight for his daddy and Frankie barely leaves his side. By the time I was able to make it down to see him on Tuesday he had been moved up to NICU level A because they discovered a hole in his right lung. They put in a chest tube to relieve the pressure and he is healing slowly but nicely. If this continues and his breathing steadies, the tube should be removed in a few days. I haven’t been able to hold or touch him because we are both neutropenic with very low white blood cell counts. His counts are slowly increasing with the help of a drug that stimulates his marrow. My WBC counts are going up as well, but my cells are leukemia cells not actual healthy cells. So for me, they want to start the next round of chemo right away. I will most likely start a WBC suppression pill today and take that until they think I have healed enough from the surgery to be moved from Labor & Delivery back to the hematology/oncology floor. Now that Hudson doesn’t have to go through the chemo with me, they will start me on a harsher more aggressive chemo drug on Monday or Tuesday of next week that will last 5 days. At day 14 they will do a bone marrow biopsy to check if my bad blasts are below 5%, and if so, they will immediately start the bone marrow transplant. My brother and sister have been tested as possible matches and we are still waiting on the results. They have found a few potential matches in the national registry already so that’s a good sign!

They started feeding Hudson today through a tube in his mouth with some donor breast milk per my request. Only a few drops at a time to see how he digests it. I finally got to reach inside the incubator and hold the tube up to help out with the feeding. I also got to hold his paci in his mouth while they stuck his foot. He didn’t even cry, just held on to my hand with his tiny fingers and stared over at me. It melted my heart, I never wanted him to let go. Little moments like this make every bit of this worth it. The aches, the pains, the fears, the doubts, all of them just disappear and we get to have a true moment of peace and happiness with each other. He is my strong little angel and has carried me through each day. I will continue to fight just as strong knowing he is counting on his mommy to come home soon after he does. I’ve waited 33 years to be a mom and nothing is going to stand in the way of that. Life will never be the same, and I’m counting on that. Only good things could possibly be ahead with this little miracle in the world now. Thank you all sincerely for helping us through this.

Also in Show and Share is a reminder sheet from Lezette Thomason on Heirloom Techniques by Machine. Always helpful to have by your machine!!

Hello ladies,

Hope this finds everyone well as we all try to survive the summer heat! Seems August heads us into fall and just maybe cooler temps are not too far behind.

I guess our most exciting news is all the things happening with Lace Cottage. The girls, myself included, have been busy getting things ordered, painted, shelves built, and organized to open August 15th!!! They have been checking out other shops, to take the best of all, to make sure they can offer you the most fun, pleasant shopping experience you can have.

On a quick visit to Children's Corner, Viv and Phyllis found out that a new pattern will soon be introduced. Need to keep checking the shop about that. Some of the fall fabrics are in already and more on the way.

Classes are already in discussions and sit and smock on Thursday evening has already begun. Pack up your hand projects and join us for that!! 5-7 p.m.

So come together and let's support our members Vivian and Phyllis, and local shop!! It promises to be exciting!!!
